Pitchers Robert Carson and LaTroy Hawkins visited P.S. 92 in Corona today to meet with students and talk about the importance of reading. For 12 years, Mets employees have visited P.S. 92 on a weekly basis to read with fourth and fifth graders as part of the Power Lunch program coordinated by the Everybody Wins! Only two weeks until Opening Day! To help count down the days until Monday, April 1, tomorrow we’re starting a special 13 Days Til Opening Day contest where you can win tickets to Opening Day! Make sure to follow @Mets on Twitter!
Mets fans, we hear you. We scheduled Banner Day for Sunday, May 26 and then ESPN picked that date for their Sunday night game. Some of you are very passionate about having Banner Day on a day game, while others feel the original date works because the next day is the Memorial Day holiday. We want to hear from more of our fans to help decide which date is best. Vote for when Banner Day will take place this season – May 11, May 26 or June 8. http://atmlb.com/WkwdO0 Voting ends Friday at 11:59 p.m.
Earlier today, David Wright & the Mets Foundation donated $250,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC to support Sandy restoration efforts. Wright & Mets COO Jeff Wilpon made the announcement at P.S. 38 on Staten Island, where 80% of students were affected by Sandy. Afterwards, he toured sections of Staten Island most impacted by Sandy and commented – “You see at a distance the devastation, but you have no idea what’s its really like when you see it on tv and in the papers. This is going to remain top of mind for me. It’s going to take a while to recover.”
